CURRENT WORKSHOPS:
The Nuts and Bolts: Parenting for Attachment -
In this half day or full day workshop (can be modified for the needs of your group), families/parents learn the key constructs to a parenting foundation that encourages the development of healthy bonds with their adopted and fostered children. Come prepared to challenge yourself in your evolution as a parent to help your sons and daughters in their adjustment to your family.
Class topics include:
- Exploration of different parenting styles and the impact of each style on children with disrupted attachments
- Discussion about why our children require unique approaches to parenting… that sometimes go “against the grain” of our instincts or other parenting methods
- Keys to providing an environment where the attachment between children and parents can thrive
LIFE LINKS: Transitioning Children with Less Trauma
In this 3 hour workshop, participants will learn how the current methods of transitioning children in/out of foster and adoptive placements are often retraumatizing. Learn how to minimize the impact of trauma during moves and aquire tools to advocate for the children in your care.
The Biology of Attachment
The latest brain research is telling us is that attachment challenges have a neurological basis; "Reactive Attachment Disorder" (known as RAD) is dysfunction in the brain. In this one-hour workshop, you’ll learn about the biology of attachment in parent-friendly terms, and how to begin the repair work of the regulatory system in the brain. Many parents have found that as they grow their understanding of their child’s physiology, they are better and better equipped to address attachment challenges and develop effective interventions for their children.
Adopting the Older Child
Adopting the older child, domestically or internationally, is its own unique adventure! This workshop will help parents prepare and explore their expectations, discuss methods of intervention for difficult and challenging behaviors, and identify methods for facilitating the bonding process. Understanding the unique needs of older adopted children is crucial to the success and functioning of the child and the family.
